Wings and Wheels Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show – Saturday, October 11, 2008

A total of 306 competition and display vehicles took part in the Museum of Aviation ’s 15th Annual Wings and Wheels Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show October 13, 2007 making it the largest show ever. “We had the best collection of outstanding vehicles we’ve ever had,” said show Chairman Bob Dubiel, who has chaired the last 13 shows. “They came from all over the state of Georgia and we even had five out-of-state vehicles from Alabama , Kentucky and Florida .” Four of those competitors won Best in Class Trophies.

An estimated 10,000 spectators came out on a glorious 80-degree to view a gleaming collection of antique, classic and customized cars, trucks nd motorcycles, worth an estimated combined total of over $6 million. The annual show benefits the Museum of Aviation, one of the largest education-focused aviation museums in the United States.

Vehicle entrants competed for over 100 trophies in 44 different classes plus special trophies for best interiors, engines and paint. Five vehicles received the coveted “Best of Show” trophies. They were:

1955 Chevy Belair Keith Hammock Irwinton, Georgia

1934 Ford Coupe Michael Haramut Warner Robins , Georgia

1969 Plymouth Road Runner Craig Hoffman Kathleen , Georgia

Wings and Wheels is the largest one-day public-attended event held at the Museum each year. “It’s fun for the whole family,” said Dubiel, “with monster truck rides, “Cruzin’ with the Oldies” DJ Tommy Landrum, the Southern Flare Cloggers, plastic aircraft models on display, kiddie car races and a rock climbing wall.” More than 50 sponsors and donors supported the show with Terry Holmes Ford Lincoln Mercury taking the lead as a $10,000 Super Sponsor.

Spectators also met Laura Lyn McLeod, Miss Warner Robins 2008 who helped present the winning trophies along with Colonel Ricky Cook from Robins Air Force Base. Papa John’s Pizza gave away “Free Pizza for a Year” to one spectator and another lucky person – Joe Griffin from Perry Georgia - won the drawing for a battery-operated riding vehicle given away by the Warner Robins Wal-Mart Stores.

Poker Fun Run

A Poker Fun Run sponsored by Corvettes Ltd. Of Central Georgia was held the night before on Friday, October 12. Players drove to several merchants in Warner Robins to draw a card and ended up at Hooters and Steak and Shake parking lots where cash and door prizes were handed out. A lucky 50/50 cash drawing winner went home with $279. The event had a total of 122 hands played.
